If you are planning to use videos in your mailings, you will need to include a poster image as an attribute in your video tag. The poster image should include the phrase, “Right click and choose Play” to help recipients view the video. You can create poster images quickly and easily with the Poster Image Creation Tool shown below. To use this tool, upload an image, choose the position, font, style, size, and the colors for the type and the background. Then click “Apply.” Save the finished image either by clicking on the “Download” button, or by right-clicking on the image and choosing “Save Image As...” from the pop-up menu.
It is also a good idea to include an alternative linked image in the tag. The wording
on the alternative image is less critical than the wording on the poster image since
clicking on the alternative image will automatically take the viewer to the appropriate
link. For information on all aspects of creating poster and alternative images for
videos in emails, please read our Video in Email white paper. You can also create your poster
and alternative images with graphics editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop,
Fireworks, or Gimp. You can start from scratch, but we've made a few to help get
you started. The right-click buttons for the "poster" image are available
in three type styles:
